Igor Savin is a pianist, vibraphonist, composer, arranger and producer from Zagreb, Croatia.
Igor Savin was born in 1946. His father was a prominent Croatian conductor, composer and opera director Dragutin Savin (long-time director of the Osijek opera).
He studied at the theoretical department of the Academy of Music in Zagreb and at the prestigious American colleges for contemporary music industry Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied harmony, improvisation and composition.
In the age of eighteen he founded his first jazz band. He played piano and vibraphone in Symphony, studio and festival orchestras and in Big Band HRT, in which today acts as a music producer. He has worked with major Croatian jazz musicians and performed at various jazz festivals. Savin is the author of music for numerous films, including cartoons, TV shows, theater performances, ballets, radio dramas, big bands, choirs and symphony orchestras. The inspiration for his compositions, especially in the field of jazz, he often found in folk music motifs.
In 1984, he founded the electronic studio Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall for the recording of electronic music. Today, he operates in its own digital studio. He is a member of a duo Modo Novo, along with saxophonist Željko Kovačević with whom he held a series of concerts in Croatia and abroad and released albums Modo Novo - Musica Sacra Antiqua croatorum, music of Erik Satie, Live in Dubrovnik and Musica Sacra Antiqua croatorum - Christus Natus est walked. He has received numerous awards and accolades, including awards of the International Federation of Cinema Clubs, honorable diplomas Gijon ‘97 and Awards Miroslav Rhys Jones - Benčić Croatian Composers’ Society in 2004 for the song Vitar piri.
Folk Sinteza is taken off his album YU Disco Expres, released by Jugoton in 1979.
